Saumur Property Description
La Cachette sur Loire is a part troglodyte house situated in the conservation village of Montsoreau in the Loire Valley, half way between Chinon and Saumur and can be reached from Caen, Le Havre in under three hours or the Chanel Ports in a little under five hours.
Montsoreau is a pretty village, a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages of France. The village has a chateau (one the few to be built at the rivers edge) and during the summer there are roses and hollyhocks growing up to 10 feet high in many parts of the village It boasts an excellent restaurant, a creperie, a bistro on a boat, as well as three bars all offering some food. In addition to this there is a butcher, boulangerie and small supermarket (hypermarket 15 mins by car). Every Sunday there is a produce market and once a month a flea market. A Pharmacy is available at 4kms. It is a very good base for the Loire Valley Chateaux and wine tasting (three in the village itself). Golf, sailing, swimming and tennis are available close by.
The house nestles against the escarpment (with two wine caves behind it with an old bread oven and a prune oven) and enjoys a quiet secluded location, with river views from the garden, although only 5 minutes walk from the village centre. There is a dining kitchen, large salon with open fireplace, one double and one twin bedroom, (both with river views), dressing room and shower room/toilet. There is a separate utility room for washing machine etc and bar b que area. In addition there is a double garage and large parking area.
The property has a ‘dependence’ for summer use. Although it has a shower and outside toilet, there is scope to develop this building. The garden in front of this is large enough to create a swimming pool.
