Property Description: Land with CU (1324 m2) in heart of the LOT - Department: 46 - Price reduced for quick sale. Nearest towns: 5 km Cajarc 25 km Figeac 50 km Cahors 1324 sq metres with Certificat d'Urbanisme. (Planning Permit) Water and electricity supplies are present at the roadside. The road is a very small one as it skirts around the castle before diving into the valley and most people use the one of two other roads out of the village which are much larger. Therefore it is very quiet the church being rarely used. It is also some way away from the newer (i.e. agriculturally active) part of the village. The plot was originally a vineyard until the phylloxera (vine) epidemic in the 1890s. In most ways it's unspoilt although discreetly richer. Architecture - a lot of it more than 100 years old - is very consistent. You have to love medievalism and the poetry of fortification with rock. The Lot valley is renowned in France as a beauty-spot - limestone-cliffed with a lot of villages built into the slope of the cliffs. This part (Cahors-Figeac on the map) was fortified by the Romans in the second or third centuries which meant building a fortress houses temple and whatever within signalling-distance of the next one. The castle has Roman foundations held by the Knights Templar in the eleventh century and the English for about fifty years in the 14th. Quite a number of small houses built at the rear of the castle are owned as second residences. About 5 kms from Cajarc going in the Capdenac direction. The A20 (Paris-Toulouse) motorway can be joined anywhere between Cahors and Souillac. There are small airports within 60 miles (Montauban will have one) although only Toulouse (150 kM) is large enough to carry international traffic. Cajarc is the local shopping town Figeac or Cahors for truly urban shopping.
