20km . northof St. Girons and 1 hour from Toulouse in the hills of the petites pyrenees with a magnificent view of the pyrenean chain.This old stone house and barn have been renovated and linked together to make one dwelling.
The main conversion was done in a very original way about 30 years ago by a fairly well known french artist.The house , link , and barn form a U shape around a courtyard and garden which has quite an exotic feeling .
The house itself defies conventional description.There are small artistic details everywhere which give it an extremely special feeling.The most important of these being the covered balcony which has been added to the full length of the building,and where we spend much of our time ( at the same level as the birds in the tree tops around )
The building can be divided into 4 parts:
1. The annexe - built on to the left side of the house 30 years ago, containing 2 rooms plus the original bread oven.
2. The main house - built about 1880, contains 5 rooms plus large attic plus bathroom/wc
3.The link between the house and barn -built 30 years ago and containing 3 rooms plus a kitchen.
4. The barn - containing 4 rooms ,2 mezzanines, 1 kitchen.
The house and barn can be easily made into two autonomous dwellings. There is presently only one bathroom but there is plenty of space to make another.
There's more than an acre of land attached with an organic vegetable garden and orchard with many fruit trees - 5 fig , 4 apple , 3cherry , 1 nashi , 3 plum , 1 apricot , 2 peach , 1 kiwi . We also have a composting toilet in the garden.
We have just installed a solar water heater on the roof of the house and it is proving to be very efficient.
