Property Description: This is a stunning Medieval property not far from the picturesque town of Crozant and the beautiful Creuse river gorges. The property was built in 1420 and could have seen Joan of Arc and been sung about by the troubadours. It has kept the original spiral stone staircase going from the vaulted cellar to the massive attic with its impressive wooden beams. Though not entirely original, it is still an extremely old building with the most impressive fireplaces on each floor which are big enough to roast a whole pig on a spit or any game hunted on the surrounding land.
The house has kept a lot of the original fixtures, including the massive beams (goodness knows how the locals managed to lift them into place!), the gorgeous flagstones, the stone surrounds of the windows, and the stone seat near the window. It oozes with history and I just hope the person who will restore it will keep as much as possible of those beautiful old fixtures. The house currently has just one open room on each of the ground floor (50m2) and the first floor, and an attic space of the same size, so it really is up to you to decide how you want to use the space.
There are some nice small outbuildings attached to the house and then, not attached to the house, there are two enormous barns (200m² and 270m² at floor level) with high mezzanines and a hangar. With proper permission you could transform some (or all!) of the barns into living space.
The land around the property is over a hectare (11,140m2 or almost 3 acres) and includes a well and a spring.
It is truly a remarkable property and only whilst visiting can one appreciate the beauty of it.
