Curtil Vergy Property Description
A French Affair: the TV series was set in the village of Curtil Vergy close to Nuits St.
Georges (7 kilometres). Beaune and Dijon are both about 25 kilometres. The small village
is on a hillside looking over a beautiful valley. The property dates from the 18th century
and is next door to Yves Chaley, the winemaker featured in the TV series. In fact the
property is made up of 3 inter connected village houses, one of which remains to be
converted. The roof tiling is new and roof insulation installed for houses 1 and 2. The
restored houses provide around 190 m2 of living space.
The two converted houses follow the Burgundy traditions- oak beams and stone. House 1
contains the main kitchen and dining area featuring part oak flooring and part traditional
floor tiling. The kitchen has tiled work surfaces and plenty of cupboard space. Cooking
is by electricity. The first bathroom is here. Above the kitchen is the main bedroom and a
second bathroom. This bedroom features oak beams, stone walls and a large built in
cupboard. Below the kitchen is the first large cellar used for storing garden materials
and where the oil fired boiler provides central heating for the main living areas. A WC is
installed.
House 2 is entered via house 1 and also has an entrance from the street directly in to the
main living room that features a fire with a stone fireplace. Off this room are two
bedrooms both with electric heating, one with a mezzanine. Under the two bedrooms are two
cellars- one stone vaulted, the other used as a wood store. Above the living room is a
large bedroom currently used as a study. This room has A form exposed oak beams supporting
the roof. Below the living room is the main vaulted stone wine cellar with access via
house 3.
House 3, built in stone, has been used as a garage and store room. It can be converted to
provide further living space.
The garden features a stone “grange” that has been renovated, again using traditional oak
beams and stone. It can provide a summer kitchen. A staircase leads to an upper level in
the grange where it is possible to install a bedroom. The garden is easy to maintain. A
large terrace faces on to the magnificent forest across the valley. There are many walks
from the house- a “Grande Randonne” runs through the village. Horses can be hired from
about a kilometre away.
