Elven is a small country market town with all the necessary shops including two central mini supermarkets as well as a larger 'hypermarche' on the edge of town. There are bakeries, a few restaurants, hotels, many cafes, a sports centre (tennis, basketball, obstacle course...) etc. and the Tours d'Elven (Fortress de Largoet) are nearby.
The town is quite a close community with some wonderful traditional processions throughout the year.
The beautiful medieval city of Vannes is only 15 minutes drive down the dual carriageway towards the coast. Here there are two huge weekly markets, flower gardens, a delightful port, cobbled streets and modern shopping centres. Auray, about 25 minutes away is equally authentic.
The sheltered Gulf of Morbihan is renowned for its islands (which can be visited by boat), fishing villages, yachting marinas, sail boarding and beautiful sandy beaches. The nearest beaches are a 20-25 minute drive; Damgan and St Gildas being just two of them.
Carnac, Quiberon, La Trinite-sur-Mer are all popular seaside resorts that are buzzing with life in the high season. Close by, Ploermel has a large lake with swimming facilities, water chute etc. whilst Questembert has an original medieval market hall.
Fishing is popular in the many rivers (permit required) and there are numberous beautiful chateaux to be visited.
The area abounds with charming villages and dense forests.
