Herault Department

Herault mapYet another department with good transport links by road, rail and train. The airport at Montpellier is used by BA and the budget airlines. The main towns are Montpellier – modern and stylish but expensive -, Beziers (on the Canal du Midi and attractive with a tree-lined centre), and the coastal towns of Sete and Cap d’Agde. Excellent all around weather and lots of wine!
There are many quieter villages inland where you can escape the busy beaches in the Summer. Yet, the good roads offer quick access to the coast.

Herault Property

If you avoid Montpellier, property prices are reasonable but bear in mind prices rose dramatically (25%) in the last few years. Beziers could be an attractive investment (there have been persistent rumours that a budget airline is looking at Beziers (Vias) airport). Sete – a mini Venice – is a bustling seaside resort with good location and plenty of excellent fish restaurants. Nearby Cap d’Agde is favoured by many.

Slightly inland we favour Sauvian and Serignan. These villages have lovely tree-lined centres and squares. Property along the Canal du Midi is sought after and attracts higher prices.

Our recommendation – the delightful rural villages to the North of Beziers – such as properties in the Orb Valley, Saint Chinian, St. Genies. Surrounded by vineyards and gently undulating landscapes. Marvellous weather, and no Mistral blowing.
