Correze Department

Corrèze is a département in the centre of France. It is also the surname of the infamous Jacques Corrèze.

Corrèze was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It includes part of the former province of Limousin.

The department is part of the current region of Limousin. It is surrounded by the departments of Creuse, Haute-Vienne, Cantal, Puy-de-Dôme, Lot, and Dordogne. There are two main rivers cutting through the landscape, the Vezere and the Dordogne. The latter has been tamed by a total of five dams producing a number of large lakes in the south.


 

Correze Property

The countryside in the Correze is more rugged as you climb up to the Massif Central. The landscape can be spectacular but the winters are harsher. Summers can be hot and sunny though!

There is plenty of property for renovation but access can be a little more difficult. Prices are cheap and you can get a lot for money. As you approach the Dordogne, towards the South-West of the department, property prices rise again. The "Quercy" area is popular among the Brits. There is a good choice of rural property.
