Young Brits opting to buy abroad

Although for many Brits retiring to France has been a lifelong dream, it seems that young people are also being attracted by the country's unique charm.

Figures show that it is not just the older generation who are thinking of purchasing property abroad but more and more young professionals who are hoping to bag themselves a bargain.

Young and old heading to France

A survey by Bank of Scotland International has revealed that three in ten workers under the age of 25 have considered moving abroad with France still remaining one of the most popular European destinations for Britons.

The bank's poll found that 35 to 40-year-olds were equally keen on living in either Spain or France, while people over 45 were clearly more interested in the latter, stating they wanted to move to France if they had the opportunity to relocate to a European country in the future.

Retire or relocate to France

Tony Wilcox, managing director at the bank, said: "Many people are of the opinion that it is only the older generation that consider moving abroad or buying property abroad.

"However, younger people are also interested in work, travel and leisure opportunities overseas."

Those who are moving to France in a bid to get a foot on the property ladder may wish to opt for a property in one of the country's new developments – which are often cheaper to maintain and not in need of renovation.
