Visit Arles for a true taste of Provence
If you have already found that perfect French property in Provence and are searching for something to do, look no further than a visit to Arles.
Surrounded by stunning countryside, the city is the largest in France and situated on the banks of the Rhone.
A visit to Arles will feel like going back in time, with its Christian heritage being seen through the old bullfighting arena as well as the Alyscamps burial grounds, the amphitheater and the Roman baths of Constantin.
Today the bull fights are held in the very same 12,000 seat arena that was the scene of the Roman games in the first century.
But if history is not for you then Arles has a lot more on offer. It is famous for its festivals, art and culture and has been a tourist hotspot for many years.
It is well known by locals and visitors that famous painter Van Gogh stayed here with his friend Gaugain. Meanwhile, Picasso created two paintings and 57 drawings of bullfights which he witnessed in the old city.
Photography is also a major focus of the city with the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie bringing in hundreds of tourists each summer.
