UK housing crisis could see Brits turn to France

More and more people look set to consider setting up a new life in France after it was revealed that the UK's housing crisis is "much more widespread" that first thought.

Many believe that it is only first time buyers who are struggling to get a foot on the property ladder and therefore considering buying a home elsewhere.

But it seems that sky high prices are affecting Brits in huge numbers, with 1.6 million households waiting for an affordable home.

Brits fed up with costly, cramped accommodation

According to the National Housing Federation (NHF) many people are struggling to pay to rent out private accommodation and are desperate to purchase their own property.

This is leading many families to want to escape the overcrowding and lack of space in the UK and consider spacious farms for sale in France or even buying a French watermill.

A spokesperson for the NHF said: "You've got soaring private sector rents as well and also a real shortage of social housing. So we've got more and more people living in cramped, unsuitable, unsafe homes."

Bargains still to be had in south west of France

France may not be as cheap as it used to be when it comes to property but it is still possible to get great deals when compared to UK prices.

This is particularly true of the countryside in the south west of France which has been largely neglected in terms of buying up land and has some bargains waiting to be snapped up.

There are a number of ways in which a French property will generate income, with holiday rentals being the most popular form for current investors.

Although many tourists head to the beach, there are also more and more visitors who are experiencing the countryside or the mountains which are all in good supply in the south west.
