Although truffles and truffle oil are found throughout the country, one of the best places to try the fungi is in Provence.

Investors from the UK flock to this region - with many noting that the sunshine brings the tourists. But even in winter, this southerly region has plenty on offer - especially for the truffle lover.

A pricey mouthful

Each December an oil and truffle fair is held in Place Jeanne d'Arc to celebrate the tasty morsel and give truffle farmers a chance to show off their best finds.

Although the truffle is an expensive treat the event itself is free, so visitors can splash even more on buying products for family back in the UK or to store in their new French property.
