Travelling to Upper Normandy
Bathed in history Upper Normandy is definitely a place for those aching for adventure and some traditional French grub.
Although the climate is generally damp, the region is densely populated with people particularly moving into homes in Le Havre, Rouen and small towns along the Seine.
Since old times, Upper Normandy has served up a delicious variety of food, with fresh fish and seafood proving particularly popular thanks to the region's location near the ocean.
Also eaten by locals are lamb, chicken and duck dishes as well as the area's famous Normandy butter.
The Monet Gardens No trip to Normandy would be complete without a visit to the stunning Monet Gardens at Giverny which were created by the artist himself.
They inspired Monet to paint some of his best loved paintings and are packed with stunning flowers including poppies, lupins, delphiniums and peonies throughout the year.
Also familiar to Monet fans are the arched bridges and of course, the famous water lilies which he painted and are now loved by people the world over.
Visiting Rouen Not far from the stunning gardens of Giverny is the capital of Upper Normandy, Rouen, which plays host to thousands of visitors every year.
Must sees include the stunning Rouen Cathedral, the front of which was famously painted by Monet at various times during one day and the recently restored Big Clock, located in the middle of the Rue du Gros Horloge.
Historians also put Rouen as the place where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake.
