Travel with ease from London to Paris
Flying from the UK to spend time in a newly bought French holiday home may get that bit easier after Air France is said to be considering introducing high speed trains to rival the likes of Eurostar.
According to the Times, the French airline is hoping to launch the new rail link from London to Paris as a way for the airline to recuperate the cash it will lose when the new Channel Tunnel link from Kings Cross opens next year.
In a bid to combat this, Air France plans to invest in high speed trains of its own to funnel people into Charles de Gaulle Airport.
French railways still popular Eurostar is still one of the most popular ways of heading to France from the UK with ticket sales up by a fifth and business passengers up by a quarter last year – in many ways due to the terrorist scares in a number of airports during the summer.
It looks set to become an even more popular choice after officials announced earlier this month that they plan to make the rail link a greener option for short haul travellers.
Eurostar goes green Eurostar commercial director Nick Mercer said that the firm plans to slash carbon dioxide emissions by a quarter per traveller journey over the next five years.
He added: "We don't have all the answers but we do know that a high-speed rail journey is ten times greener than short haul flying and that Eurostar can be greener still.
"People want to minimise their carbon footprint on the environment and our aim is to help passengers tread lightly when they travel."
