Thousands gather in Normandy to remember

One reason why many families decide to pack up and move to France is the number of varied events on offer throughout the country to entertain and educate parents and children alike.

But perhaps the most moving of these is the annual D Day remembrance services held in memory of those who died during the Allied D Day operation in the Second World War.

Visitors flock to beaches of Normandy

Each year, thousands visit the beaches and military cemeteries around Caen and Bayeux to remember those who perished and celebrate the lives of the survivors.

As part of the event held on June 5th, visitors to the region are given information about Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of north west Europe in 1944 when the Allies crossed the River Seine.

This event remains the largest invasion by sea in history, involving almost three million troops crossing the English Channel from England to Normandy.

Events in Normandy

For those with children, Normandy is an ideal place both to visit and settle, with its location close to the UK coast and plethora of educational and interesting sites to see.

One of the most popular of these is the world famous Bayeux Tapestry which is currently being exhibited in a special museum in the town of Bayeux.

The embroidered cloth has fascinated children and adults alike for its historic depiction of the Norman invasion of England in 1066.
