Take a ride into Limousin
Limousin has only recently become popular with tourists, many of whom are looking for an altogether different kind of French trip.
The region is ideal for people who have bought property in France and want to experience a more off the beaten track adventure where the old fashioned image of rural France still exists.
Unlike many of the more popular tourist haunts, Limousin offers a much needed break from the norm, with tiny clusters of villages and very few built up areas.
What Limousin has to offer Despite its somewhat remote location, the refreshingly under-populated region is certainly not one to let its tourists down.
There is much to take up your day in the area, be it exploring the historic little towns which are dotted across the region or examining some of the traditional crafts such as tapestry and weaving.
Limoges Perhaps the best place to get a good idea of the history of the area, and indeed the country, is Limoges.
Here, tourists will find examples of the traditional Limoges porcelain and Limoges jewellery for which the city is famed.
Limoges is known worldwide for its medieval enamels on copper, its 19th century porcelain and its oak barrels which are used for Cognac production.
Also pulling in the tourists are the 1,000 lakes in the Haute Vienne, which are popular both for their artificial beaches and many water activities including windsurfing, canoeing, water skiing, sailing and boat trips.
