This year those who head to the Aquitaine-based citadel will be in for even more of a treat at the Spring Fair in the Place des Quinconces.

It is held to celebrate the start of spring and a great place to head for families hoping to make a fresh start in France.

Those who are planning to spend some time in the area will certainly have plenty to keep them entertained and enough to keep their stomachs full.

Street vendors selling delicious snacks are situated at every corner while the good weather allows for others to take a break in one of the numerous open air restaurants.

No trip to Bordeaux would be complete without sampling some of the area's fine wine and wherever you go in the city will be reminders of its close association with the vineyards.

Perhaps the most prominent of these is the Ville de Bordeaux that takes the Bordelais and tourists on river trips from the city to the vineyards.

Other events in Aquitaine

Some of the highlights over the next few months include the medieval festivals in the Dordogne and the Lot et Garonne, the May Cheese festival in Rocamadour and the music dance and theatrical Festival of Pau in mid-June.

July will see a popular Jazz festival kick off in Soulliac as well as a Blues festival in Cahors and music festival in Sarlat.
