Just a hop across the English Channel, the region is a popular one with tourists for its attractive landscapes and buzzing towns such as Calais or the pretty seaside resort of Le Touquet.

Those looking for some fresh air can take advantage of the wide open spaces of unspoilt countryside as well as miles of coastline.

Also popular is the network of waterways which are ideal for boat trips and other water activities.

Dover to Calais

Despite many seeing it as a stop off point for those travelling onto the continent, Calais, France, has much to offer visitors.

The area is packed with restaurants offering numerous regional specialities as well as a variety of locally brewed beers and French wines.

If you known where to look, you can find historical features dotted about including Calais Town Hall with its spectacular belfry and the famous statue of the Six Burghers by Rodin.

Relax in Le Touquet

The fashionable seaside town of Le Touquet is an ideal place to spend a lazy weekend be it strolling past the many boutiques or sampling the fresh seafood on offer.

There are plenty of hotels dotted around the town with some of the more luxurious being frequented by wealthy Parisians who fancy a break.

A little further out of town and there is even more to enjoy, with acres of woodland and activity centres offering every sport imaginable, particularly golf.
