Retiring to Limousin

If you are thinking of retiring to France but are yet to decide where to live out your days, it may be worth considering a place in Limousin.

France is fast becoming one of the most popular places for older people to buy, which in some areas has caused property prices to rise.

But Limousin, which is still relatively untouched by developers, it the perfect place to bag a bargain in a region renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful countryside.

Lovely Limoges

For those who decided to make the move, one of the first ports of call must be the lovely town of Limoges.

The historic centre is best known for its medieval enamels on copper, its 19th century porcelain and its oak barrels which people come to see from far and wide.

Other popular tourist haunts are the beautiful 10th century Crypt of Saint Martial and the Gallo-Roman amphitheatre, uncovered just 50 years ago.

Head to Saint Innocent fair

Although these must-see attractions are mostly busy in the summer, those who are retiring to France will also need some entertainment in the winter months.

Visitors are therefore welcomed to the Saint Innocent winter fair which takes place annually in Limoges to mark when the town was given a market licence by Charles IX.

Products ranging from sausages and pate to wine, clothes and other French goods are on offer, although many choose just to browse.
