Paris to celebrate May Day in style
For most Brits, May Day is not one of the best celebrated holidays in the calendar, but in France, the event is more strictly observed that Christmas and New Year.
This year, the day looks set to get people flocking to the capital city of Paris to watch the annual colourful parade.
Brits who are living in France and French natives from towns and villages in the surrounding Ile de France region are set to join in the event which sees the Unions march through the working class part of eastern Paris.
Where to enjoy the celebrations Visitors who fancy experiencing the event are being advised to watch the parade from the Bastille.
This former fortress, which is no longer in existence, is still a symbol of royal repression and remains a popular site for left wing demonstrations.
Most tourists watching the parade will take the opportunity to explore the Bastille area which has now been built up and houses some of the trendiest bars and restaurants in the city.
Explore Paris on a bicycle Meanwhile, cycling fans who are planning a trip to the most romantic city in the world would do well to go this summer.
According to reports, 1,450 new kiosks offering about 20,000 bicycles for hire are being established throughout the city.
Those who prefer enjoying the sport off the saddle can stick around for the London to Paris Cycle from June 29th to July 2nd.
