Paris offers the seaside too

Every summer, a two mile stretch of the River Seine is transformed into a beautiful sandy beach, complete with deckchairs, sun loungers and parasols.

Parisians fed up with the hustle and bustle of city life can head to the 'beach' near the Pont Neuf and Hotel de Ville to relax or keep their children occupied.

Since 2002, the replica seaside has become an annual event and is ideal for people with property and jobs in the capital who want to get away from it all but not go too far.

Visitors to the unique display are not only invited to lounge in the French sunshine but can also participate in numerous other activities and sports including dancing, petanque and volleyball.

Entertainment for all at the Paris Plage

Jean Christophe Choblet, who designed the Paris Plage, said that it was built to allow Parisians to laze and stroll along the banks of the Seine but warns visitors that the river is not fit for swimming.

Throughout the summer, the entertainment continues at the unique location with numerous concerts, dance routines and comedy shows.
