Opera in Provence
There are few better places in France to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of opera than Provence, with the region also housing some of the most beautiful opera houses in the country.
Perhaps the most spectacular way to enjoy it, however, is at the Les Choregies d'Orange - France's oldest opera festival.
Relax at the Choregies d'Orange The event, which was first held in 1860, has now become an annual celebration attended and enjoyed by music fans from across the world.
Held at the Theatre Antique, a huge first century AD Roman amphitheatre in Orange, it is a must see for anyone who has bought Provence property for sale.
The venue is one of the most stunning in France and, along with a number of other Roman buildings in the area, forms a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Beautiful music for all This year's event included music from Puccini's Madame Butterfly and Verdi's Il Trovatore as well as music from Tchaikovsky, Gershwin and Bernstein.
Up to 9,000 can be seated at any one time in the historic venue which was restored in the 1800s to make it more comfortable for a modern audience.
