Nantes entertains 100,000 tourists

France receives thousands of visitors every year but few places have a party atmosphere quite like Les Rendez Vous de L'Erdre in Nantes.

More than 100,000 people head to the city in Western Loire where a three kilometre stretch of riverbank is set aside for a set of up to 60 blues and jazz performers.

Held from August 31st to September 2nd every year, the weekend is packed with things to do and see.

Plenty to do at Les Rendez Vous

Visitors to the free event can enjoy a range of exhibitions as well as attend workshops, talks and displays.

There are also a series of regattas held where different types of boat, including yachts and steel boats, take part.

For those who have time to explore Nantes itself, there is plenty more on offer including the Castle of the Breton Dukes. The building has finally reopened after three years of closure and 15 years of renovations and is a fine example of Renaissance architecture.

Rugby World Cup at Nantes

But if fine art isn't your thing, it may be a good idea to stick it out until September when the Rugby World Cup will be heading to the city.

On September 22nd, England will be facing Samoa and hundreds of fans are expected to head to the area to enjoy the match.
