Loire Valley offers medieval experience for all
The French are famous for their pretty medieval towns and are not the sort to shirk a celebration.
So, in true French fashion, 10,000 revellers head to the Medieval Days in the Loire Valley Castle of Bannegon every year.
In an event which is ideal for all the family, the perfectly preserved medieval village is taken back to the time when it was built with archers, music, dance and food straight out of the Dark Ages.
French flock to ancient castle Held annually in August, the event includes a two-day market where crafts are bought and sold as well as entertainment from medieval jousters.
Parents can relax in the knowledge that youngsters are being entertained at a number of supervised workshops which are organised and are also invited to enjoy a traditional medieval banquet.
History made at Castle of Bannegon As well as being a lesson in history, the event is great fun for the family and a good way for newcomers to the Loire Valley to meet new people and learn about the area.
The Castle of Bannegon is particularly unique in that some of its ramparts date back to the 13th century.
