During the Middle Ages, the region became famous for its poetry, while the 12th century saw monarchs from both sides of the Channel battling for control of Limousin.

Even now, visitors to the unique region can still get a taste of what life used to be like in the area with the residents of the town of Egletons welcoming tourists to join them in a medieval festival.

The street party held in July involves locals dressing in the traditional costumes of the time and joining in various activities which their ancestors would have enjoyed all those years ago.

Residents dress in medieval armour and joust, while court jesters and jugglers take to the streets to entertain the crowds.

Visitors are invited to join in the dancing but organisers add that it is always more fun if they get dressed up and make the most of the music and medieval feasts on offer.
