Investment opportunity in France

Although many people buy homes abroad to retire to or even move to permanently, it seems that most Brits see France as an investment opportunity.

For many people, purchasing a buy-to-let property in Britain would be near impossible financially but buying a chateau or even looking for French farms for sale could be an idea if you want to make a profit.

Thousands of people head to France each year, many of whom are looking for an attractive home to stay in while they are there.

Throughout the summer months, those who rent out French property are almost guaranteed to get visitors vying for a room while the rest of the year the property can be used as a holiday home.

The figures come from UK website Holiday-Rentals.co.uk, which asked 12,000 overseas property owners why they had decided to make the purchase.

More than 53 per cent said that investment was their main reason, with rental potential being the most important financial consideration influencing their purchase.

Alexis de Belloy, managing director of the website, said rentals could make a "sufficient contribution" towards property costs.

Guide to France elections

Meanwhile, whether you are looking at land purchases in France, thinking of retiring to France or simply passing through, it is difficult to avoid talk of the up and coming presidential elections.

It is estimated that 44.5 million French people will head down to vote on April 22nd, compared with 41.2 million in the 2002 presidential elections.

According to AFP news agency, the number of registered voters increased dramatically over the last year, particularly in the Ile de France region.
