Grow old in France without pension worries

If you are considering buying that perfect French home to retire to it is good to know that your pension will still be easily accessible.

Anyone who is four months away from UK State Pension age can request a forecast from the Pension Service which will tell you what you can expect to receive.

This will include the amount of State Pension you have earned already in the UK what you might earn before you reach State Pension age. However, this forecast will not include any insurance contributions which you may have been paid in France.

Pension Forecasts for overseas customers are separate and dealt with by HM Revenue & Customs. It can provide you with a forecast which includes any French money you have earned.

If you have paid National Insurance contributions in the UK but have moved to France you can expect to receive a claim form about four months before you reach UK State Pension age.

This form asks you to tell the Pension Service about any insurance and residence you may have in other countries.

If you have paid insurance contributions towards a pension in France, officials there will look at your contributions under its own scheme and work out how much can have.

You will then receive a pension from both the UK and France if you have at least the minimum amount of insurance contributions required in each country to qualify.

Each country pays you part of your pension but how much France will pay depends on how much you have put into its scheme.

Either way, moving to France will not affect the amount of money you receive from the UK. It will be exactly the same.
