France's Rhone Alpes region

Situated on the borders of both Switzerland and Italy, the French region Rhone Alpes is a must see for all those who want a winter or summer break.

Packed with things to entertain even the least exploratory of tourists, Rhone Alpes houses a wealth of historical, geographical, cultural and economic treasures.

Places not to be missed include the romantic capital city of Lyon and the mountains, including the impressive Mont Blanc.

Also popular are the region's many natural parks, rivers and famous vineyards.

Skiing in Val d'Isere

Popular with skiers and snowboarders from around the world, few winter sports fans would miss out on the opportunity to head to the slopes of Val d'Isere once in a while.

As well as offering hotels and other accommodation to suit every budget, the resort is also packed with bars and clubs which guarantee visitors a trip to remember.

Restaurants and equipment hire can be pricey, but most visitors are willing to splash out to get onto the slopes of one of the most well loved ski resorts in the world.

Visiting Lyon

The medieval city of Lyon is the third largest in the whole of France and is loved by locals and tourists for its gastronomy and role in the history of cinema.

Events worth attending include the Festival of Lights held every year on December 8th and no trip is complete without visiting the city's renowned opera house.

For wine lovers, two of France's best known wine growing regions are located near Lyon, these being Beaujolais to the north and the Cotes du Rhone to the south.
