Fancy some Champagne
French holidaymakers would be well advised to take a leisurely trip to the Champagne region of the country while on a break there.
Situated in the historical north-eastern province of the country, the area is best known for its ties with the white sparkling wine that is produced in the local vineyards.
As it is situated no more than 100 miles east of Paris, Champagne is a very feasible day trip and the nearby towns of Reims and Epernay make great bases from which to explore also.
The area's different wine regions were defined in 1927 and split into five distinct parts. The whole region entails around 76,000 acres of vineyards spread across 300 villages and 5,000 vignerons or wine growers.
Ardennes
Nearby is the Ardennes region which is a hilly and densely forested area. Visitors here will experience stunning scenery and typically witness many steep sided valleys and rivers.
Though the area is sparsely populated and spreads into neighbouring Belgium and Luxembourg, holidaymakers who visit will witness the true French countryside in all its magnificent beauty.
