Experiencing Auvergne
Whether you are a seasoned visitor or heading to France in search of French property Auvergne is always worth a look.
The area is popular with tourists for its wild landscape and outdoor activities on offer but is also famous for its delicious cheese.
Fourme and Bleu d'Auvergne both come from the region, with the milk of 30 cows going into making just one 50kg wheel of cheese.
Auvergne's volcanoes Perhaps the greatest attraction which sees thousands of Brits and French natives heading to this stunning part of France is the volcanoes.
Around for nearly two million years, the amazing mountains shape the landscape and give the region its famous spring water.
For those who have bought property in Auvergne and are hoping for a bit of adventure at the weekend, little beats a guided tour around one of the vast craters left by an extinct volcano.
For younger explorers, an entire theme park has been built in honour of the ancient landscape explaining how the volcanoes came about.
Activities in Auvergne The highest peak in the area is Mont Dore within which lies the largest group of volcanoes in Europe.
But if mountain climbing just isn't your thing, the region has a lot more on offer including more than 500 stunning Romanesque churches.
Also waiting to be explored are ten spa towns and some of the most picturesque villages in the country including the popular Haute Loire.
