Experience Provence's famous rose festival

People are expected to be heading to Provence in their droves this summer in a bid to catch the scent of the region's famous Rose Festival.

Held in the pretty town of Grasse, the annual event celebrates the sweet smelling flower and brings hundreds of visitors flocking to the region.

This year, from May 6th to 8th, rose growers and gardeners from across the globe will put forward their prize flowers in a bid to be named top of their game.

Events celebrating the world's most famous flower will be taking place throughout the streets and parks of the town as well as in the museums and cathedral.

Head to province for Ascension Day

Also pulling in the tourists this year is the annual Corso, a parade held on April 17th which promises to be fun for all the family.

As well as events for children, the parade includes themed floats made using a unique method which is particular to Cavaillon, the town in which the party is held.

Six months is spent preparing each float for the big day so anyone in Provence on Ascension Day is advised to get down there and join the party.

More cheap flights to Provence

Meanwhile, getting from the UK to has just been made that bit easier with budget airline Jet2 revealing that it will be launching the first scheduled flights from Scotland to Avignon in southern France this summer.

Philip Meeson told industry website Travel Mole: "We know that Provence is a Scottish favourite.

"We are delighted that we have made this possible for the people of Scotland and in fact the north as a whole."
