Chinese boost French tourism

Those thinking of investing in French property may be interested to know that the country's tourism industry is receiving a boost from visitors heading in from across the globe.

One major contributor to French tourism is China, which sees more and more people visit the European country each year.

Figures show that French hotels put up around 600,000 Chinese people in 2006, while others decided to rent rooms or cottages for the duration of their stay.

Savvy Brits invest in France


In all, around 78 million people headed to France in 2006 making it the most popular destination in the world.

A boost by tourists from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain and east European countries was also good news for investors with buy to let mortgages who had rooms to rent in the country.

Languedoc Roussilon proving popular


Last year, the Languedoc Roussillon region proved one of the most popular destinations, perhaps because of its prime location on the borders of Spain and Andorra along with the Mediterranean Sea.

Of the 60 million people who currently live in France, two million are employed in hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes or other sectors supported by tourists.
