Cannes Film Festival preparations underway

France seems to be going showbiz mad in preparation for the famous Cannes Film Festival which kicks off next month.

The event, which is known throughout the world as one of the most prestigious in the movie calendar, is held each year in the South of France.

Whether you are buying French property in Provence, Normandy or Burgundy, it is worth heading down to Cannes from May 16th to 27th to spot some famous faces.

French film becoming more popular

The Cannes Film Festival screens cinematography from across the world but it seems that the French are fast becoming film buffs to rival the likes of Hollywood.

Figures released by the Centre National de la Cinematographie show that within the French box office, directors such a Luc Besson were now more popular that some US rivals.

Edith Piaf biopic La Vie en Rose ha been seen by five million people since its release on Valentine's Day, while Besson's Taxi 4 also proved popular within the last month.

Film producers club together in France

The figures come as it was revealed that 120 French film producers have come together to form a new syndicate in a bid to reinforce the profession.

Named L'Association des Producteurs de Cinema, it aims to be an active and representative partner in negotiating on behalf of it members and ensure the improvement of the independent French film production in the future.

It further hopes to better relationships with distributors and broadcasters as well as making it attractive profession for youngsters.
