Brits head to Brittany

Whether you live there already or are considering moving to France you will probably be aware of the popularity of Brittany for both tourists and native French people.

Projecting into the Atlantic Ocean, the region is bordered on the north by the English Channel and on the south by the Bay of Biscay.

It is unique in terms of other French regions because of its Celtic heritage, with around a quarter of its population of 2.8 million being able to speak Breton, a Celtic language similar to Cornish.

Brittany holidays

Perhaps the most attractive thing about this area of France is the ease at which it can be accessed, particularly from the UK.

If you are hoping to move to France, but don't want to be too far from home, it is a good spot to pick and the activities and sights on offer will no doubt entice British friends over to enjoy a Brittany holiday.

Brittany ferries regularly sail to Portsmouth, Poole and Plymouth as well as Cherbourg, Caen, Roscoff, St Malo in France and Santander in northern Spain.

Visiting Rennes

If you are feeling adventurous, a trip to the bustling city of Rennes wouldn't go amiss, with its traditional Celtic museums and attractive restaurants.

Nearby is the popular tourist attraction of Mont St Michael, a small rocky tidal island in Normandy, roughly one kilometre from the north coast of France.

Tours of this sixth century stronghold are available on request and locals will agree that it is well worth checking out.
