This year, there has been an upsurge in the number of enquiries for French property as a permanent residence. What is the motivation? Well here are some of the excuses - sorry reasons - in no particular order.
1) Get more for your money - bigger French property in a better location. Plus living costs are less.
2) Fed up with Britain -
a) taxes [especially rates or whatever name they call it now - due for name change any day so that they (the government) can spin it / re-brand it]
b) Immigration policy or lack of immigration policy. Cannot tell you what most people say!
c) Vandalism / crime in locality
d) Transport - commuting to work just too time consuming; quotes fo 3 to 4 hours (and worse) added to the working day - particularly in the SE.
e) Unacceptable cultural changes in Britain - losing our identity.
Strangely, very few mention the quality of life in France; different life style, food or better weather, etc. One major exception - huge growth in the number of UK residents who wish to run a gites complex as “it is easy money” (oh yes) and the “lifestyle surely has to better than the UK”.
Are the advantages of France just accepted or does Jacques have to do a better selling job to get more UK sterling into the country?
