These series of posts will record the difficulties, frustrations and hopefully the sale of a house in France.
The story so far…….
We purchased a 4 bedroom house on the outskirts of Perpignan just over 2 years ago - it was built in 2001. It is situated on the favoured (!) east side (south of the river) in the direction of the beaches of Canet en Roussillon.
It is a 4 bed modern style villa (+ integrated garage) with open plan lounge / dining room, large American style kitchen (with every gizmo), pantry, large double bedrooom, luxury family bathroom, 2 sets of french doors leading to patios and decking beside the swimming pool. On the first floor 3 more double bedrooms - the master has walk-in dressing room, and bathroom with separate wc. Sun Terrace. Air-conditioning throughout. Complete with all furniture
Gardens to front, rear and site. Swimming pool enclosed with wooden fencing and the obligatory alarm! Automatic garden watering system. Beautiful views to Mount Canigou from the garden and bed-rooms.
15 minutes to central Perpignan with its shops. old city (with fabulous restaurants) + history. Beaches everywhere! About 90 minutes drive to the ski slopes and dramatic walks in the Pyrenees. Marinas all along the coast. Collioure (a must see) about 20 minutes drive. Easy access via Perpignan or Girona airports.
Rental potential: During the summer the property was rented(with minimum notice) by an international rental organisation with a local office. During the peak months of July and August they were able to secure £1500 + per week. In all it was rented out for about 9 weeks.
So that is the background…next part: dealing with the estate agents!
